FRAMING CLAUSE FOR CONTRACTS
Upon completion of the wall framing, the accuracy of wall frame in each plane and dimension shall be checked.
No wall cladding shall proceed until the contracting parties are satisfied that the wall framing complies with the requirements of AS/NZS 2589.1.
All trimmers, bracing nogging and fixing battens shall be checked to be within the plane of the frame surface.
FIXING OF PLASTERBOARD
GENERAL
The minimum specification used will be as per AS/NZS 2589:2007
ROOF TRUSSES
For best practice under trussed rafter roofs manufacturers recommend the use of metal furring systems.
DIRECTION CHANGE FOR ROOF TRUSSES
Where the platform requires that the roof trusses change direction, the minimum requirements under AS/NZS 2589.1 are for trimmers to be used. For best practice manufacturers recommend the use of metal furring systems.
FIXING
When specifying the installation of plasterboard, manufacturer's instructions must be followed. This is essential to ensure a quality finish. Refer to manufacturer's technical brochures.
PRE-FORMED METAL ANGLES
The use of preformed angles should be specified if required. Many specifiers regard their use as essential in finish to Levels 4 and above (optional for level 3)
STANDARDS OF FINISH
Specification - Levels of Plasterboard Finish are to be read in conjunction with the leaflet FIXING AND STOPPING and to select appropriate level of finish.
LEVELS OF FINISH
LEVEL 4
This is the generally accepted level of finish for domestic construction and the specification will read that all framing, plasterboard lining, jointing and finishing shall be carried out to a Level 4 Finish, in accordance with AS/NZS 2589.1:1997 'Gypsum linings in residential and light commercial construction - Application and finishing Part 1 Gypsum plasterboard'
For other levels of finish where appropriate the specification details are: -
LEVEL 0
All framing, plasterboard lining, jointing and finishing shall be carried out to a Level 0 Finish, in accordance with AS/NZS 2589.1:1997 'Gypsum linings in residential and light commercial construction - Application and finishing Part 1 Gypsum plasterboard' - Appendix C
LEVEL 1
As above except for Level 1 and Appendix D
LEVEL 2
As above except for Level 2 and Appendix E
LEVEL 3
As above except for Level 3 and Appendix F
PAINTING
Refer to AS/NZS 2311 -2000 Guide to Painting of Buildings.
PREPARATION
All plasterboard surfaces shall be thoroughly brushed down to remove dust and debris. Any minor surface variations shall be lightly sanded to a flush finish.
SEALER COAT
Prior to any painting, all surfaces shall be given one full coat of a proprietary plasterboard sealer, applied undiluted (unless otherwise specified) in accordance with the manufacturers directions.
Subsequent coatings shall be applied according to paint manufacturer's recommendations after sealer coat is thoroughly dry.
The selected finishing paint shall be applied in two full coats. Application shall be made undiluted, (unless otherwise specified) using a roller or a brush for detailing.
FINISHING COATS
The finishing coat paints shall be 'named brand' paints supplied in manufacturer's containers.
Application may be by brush or roller. Under no circumstances shall paints be diluted more than the manufacturer's recommendation.
Each paint film shall be allowed to dry fully before subsequent coats are applied.
