Its not a board game

The Association takes plasterer safety seriously, as the law requires. To help deliver this safety to plasterers on building sites, and on behalf of the membership of the Association, we have developed an important training package. Our program is called It's not a BOARD GAME; subtitled Safe Work Practices for Plasterers.

Designed and presented by Workplace Skills Access at Swinburne University of Technology and AWCIANZ, as a cooperative venture funded by a grant from the Federal Department of Education and Training, It's not a BOARD GAME provides a comprehensive framework for the technical information, concepts and vocabulary required to achieve safe plastering. The set comprises a DVD, training manual and trainers' notes. The package is being introduced by AWCIANZ members as part of their induction program for new employees and as  guidance and a refresher for existing employees. And the package was designed particularly to focus upon workplace English language and literacy.

The training set is linked to several units of competency that are nationally endorsed. Those undertaking plastering tasks are introduced to the following job components:

  • preparing for plastering
  • moving around the site
  • doing the job
  • your rights and responsibilities, and
  • a glossary is provided.

Plasterers are also trained via the module in safety and environmental site risk assessment, undertaking a Job Safety Analysis, while the glossary covers from 'automatic retractable blade' to 'well stocked first aid kit'.
