For all plastering related issues this site can assist those with an inquiry, direct inquirers on where answers may be found to wall and ceiling issues and generally be a source of information.
The national organisation AWCI represents the interest of its members in the building and construction industry, thereby providing a voice for the wall and ceilings industries.
Membership benefits include industrial relations, fire-rating training, a national insurance system which can save members premium costs, together with occupational health and safety services. The association also enables members to present a combined voice in dealing with manufacturers, suppliers and unions on any issue affecting their businesses.
By joining the AWCI or one of its State affiliates you ensure not only that your voice is heard within the industry, but also gain membership benefits which include:
- staying aware of new products and new technologies
- contributing to modification or change to existing plaster-sector products
- meeting manufacturers and suppliers at AWCI industry events and the national conference
- assitance to ensure your compliance with legislative requirements
- providing access to AWCI's plaster OH&S program It's not a Board Game
- keeping informed of changes in wages and conditions for your employees
- having input into industrial negotiations
From a business point of view, the Association will provide you with essential information (wages, conditions, OH&S etc) and industrial support should you require it, together with industry contacts for your technical and supply issues.

The inaugural AWCI Apprentice Challenge was run during the 64th National Conference on the Gold Coast in October
Teams of two apprentices from each Australian State and from New Zealand competed to build their project structure over two and a half days and then were judged on their accuracy, neatness and adherence to the supplied plans. The Apprentice Challenge was sponsored by BGC Plasterboard.
In an extremely close competition the Western Australian team of James Munro and Todd Greaves were judged to be the winners. Both received a framed certificate and a voucher to the value of $500 for tools donated by ProPlaster Products and Wallboard Tools.

Awards of Excellence winners
The AWCI 64th National Conference was the time for announcing the winners of the National Awards of Excellence for submitted wall and ceiling projects. The Awards were sponsored by James Hardie, and evaluation of the projects resulted in Awards in five categories.
The winning projects were:
- Commercial - Cloudland Nightclub, the Valley, Brisbane, submitted by Featuroom
- Residential - Residence in Mosman Park, Perth, submitted by Topline Plaster Products
- Heritage - Old Court Building, Wellington, New Zealand
- Facades - CSU Equine Science Clinical Teaching Facility in NSW, submitted by Riverina Plasterworks
- Peoples' Choice - Cloudland Nightclub, the Valley, Brisbane, submitted by Featuroom.

A Guide to the Safe Delivery & On-Site Storage of Plasterboard
AWCI has today released a draft document on the safe delivery to and on-site storage of plasterboard. This document will be worked on to provide an industry standard in the Association's OH&S series.
A New Name for the Association
The old FWCIANZ name is no more. From June 22nd 2007 the Executive Committee authorised this organisation's operation as the Association of Wall and Ceiling Industries of Australia & New Zealand Inc. - AWCI. The branding is now is consistent with the State Affiliate organisations, and reflects the names of the US and New Zealand groups. The incorporation under this name is based around a revised constitution which more accurately reflects the organisational aims.

Consistent with our name change, AWCI advises that we are now found on the internet at www.awci.org.au Please add that to your favourites listing.
