Dear Sir,

After reading the present and past editions of On The Surface,I would like to congratulate you on what is in my opinion the best building related magazine that I know of. The articles are straight to the point, informative and enlightening to read. If only all facets of the building trade had the dedication and foresight that you have, we would have a much better building industry. I find your articles pertinent, informative and valuable. The Laffs page had me in tears. Congratulations on a great magazine and keep doing what you are doing.

Yours faithfully,

Ken Lindsay

The inaugural AWCI Apprentice Challenge was run during the 64th National Conference on the Gold Coast  in October 2010

Teams of two apprentices from each Australian State and from New Zealand competed to build their project structure over two and a half days and then were judged on their accuracy, neatness and adherence to the supplied plans. The Apprentice Challenge was sponsored by BGC Plasterboard.

In an extremely close competition the Western Australian team of James Munro and Todd Greaves were judged to be the winners. Both received a framed certificate and a voucher to the value of $500 for tools donated by ProPlaster Products and Wallboard Tools.

More details on the competition to follow.

AWCI has released a draft document on the safe delivery to and on-site storage of plasterboard. This document will be worked on to provide an industry standard in the Association's OH&S series.

A New Name for the Association

The branding is now is consistent with the State Affiliate organisations, and reflects the names of the US and New Zealand groups. The incorporation under this name is based around a revised constitution which more accurately reflects the organisational aims.
