I have noticed some shadowing on the plasterboard immediately next to the bottom chords of the trusses in a home I have completed some time ago. What could be causing this?

Some roof trusses are treated against termite/insect attach and there are different solvents used in the treatment process being oil or spirit based. This shadowing is sometimes caused by the oil based solvent. Battening out of ceilings apart from producing a longer lasting ceiling also overcomes the issues related to oil based solvents being used on truss chords. The Australian Standard AS/NZS 2589 states:

When fixing to some treated timbers, extreme caution should be taken to ensure the adhesive is compatible with the relevant treatment system.
